My Native American name is Chooma, meaning "Yellow Bird", but you know me as Rowan Harrison. I have been practicing pottery making since 1995, when the art form was introduced to me by my Grandmother on the Isleta Indian Reservation in New Mexico.

My cultural background is Native American. My father is Navajo and my mother is Isletan, both southwestern tribes. Although I am Native American, I classify my works as contemporary, hand-built decorative pottery. Currently, I am involved in the ceramics program at Fullerton College, which specializes in wheel thrown ceramics. However, my specialty has always been hand-built coiled pottery, which is done without the aid of a wheel. This ancient technique has been practiced by many cultures and societies throughout the world.
